1) I don’t believe there’s any such thing as a “social media expert.” The field, platforms, and methods change at lightning speed, and I put in a considerable amount of effort every day just trying to keep up, let alone be an “expert.” Or a “guru.” Or whatever other foolish thing they’re calling people in the social media field these days.

2) That having been said, I do know a bit about what I’m doing, and I found this article over at Media Bistro’s All Twitter:

Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest – A Social Media Checklist For Businesses

Social media has a pretty steep learning curve, and when you’re a brand using these tools for the first time the wealth of information in how to best leverage platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest, as well as blogs and video, can be overwhelming.

This article comes with a really handy infographic checklist that’s especially suited for smaller businesses that are just dipping their toes into social media public relations and marketing. Don’t let the infographic overwhelm you because it’s listing seven different platforms, though. You should pick the platforms that work best for your business, and that might not be all of them. Don’t be afraid to abandon a platform where you’re not getting any traction, guys.

Marci Sischo

After watching her parents murdered by a mugger in a back alley, Marci Sischo grew up vowing to become the world's greatest detec -- wait, that's Batman. Theorizing that one could time travel within her own lifetime, Marci Sischo stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished -- no, no. That's Dr. Sam Beckett. Drat. Marci Sischo grew up in northern Michigan, and moved to Oregon in 2009. Yes! She's the Commuter's webmaster, pursuing a journalism degree at LBCC, and in her dwindling spare time, she's co-authoring an urban fantasy novel.
