Internet Piracy, Part III

Gizmodo writer Kyle Wagner has a pretty kick-ass article up that neatly details why people pirate. you should go read it. In fact, I’ll wait for you – the link is below.

This Is Why People Pirate

Do you know why people hate movie studios? Why, increasingly, they’re driven to download content illegally, even though they’re perfectly willing to pay for it? Because of crap like this…

Back? Awesome.

I’m sure Big Content is dancing in the streets right about now because they (finally) managed to kill Demonoid (for now – trust me, someone’s buying that name and getting the site up and running again right now). And I’m sure they’re rubbing their hands gleefully together as they advance on the Pirate Bay – which isn’t going to do anyone any good, by the way, because the whole site is set up to be stored on a thumb drive and moved around anonymously at will.

Big Content probably thinks it’s winning. Finally. But it isn’t, because it still sucks. Guys, as long as you’re still shoving a crappy, grossly over-priced service that forces us to buy crap we don’t want or use crap in ways we don’t want to use it, down our throats, we’re still going to prefer pirating your junk.

If you stop sucking, Big Content, we’ll stop pirating. Until then? Yarrr!

Marci Sischo

After watching her parents murdered by a mugger in a back alley, Marci Sischo grew up vowing to become the world's greatest detec -- wait, that's Batman. Theorizing that one could time travel within her own lifetime, Marci Sischo stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished -- no, no. That's Dr. Sam Beckett. Drat. Marci Sischo grew up in northern Michigan, and moved to Oregon in 2009. Yes! She's the Commuter's webmaster, pursuing a journalism degree at LBCC, and in her dwindling spare time, she's co-authoring an urban fantasy novel.

On this I finally agree, But honestly I’d rather wait for it to be on free TV to watch things now. That and I find most of my TV shows to be far more interesting than the latest reboot of which ever superhero they are redoing now.
