Movie Review: Red State

Depending on who you ask, Red State is either the best film Kevin Smith ever made, or the worst trash ever committed to celluloid. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground for this film. For the record, I'm firmly in the "best film Kevin Smith ever made" camp.

Fright Night – the 1985 original, with Roddy McDowell and Chris Sarandon — was the first vampire flick I ever saw, so I greeted the news of a remake with a rush of warm nostalgia and pure dread. Wait… Beer-Flavored Jelly?

We headed to Portland for the Saturday Market this morning with Jim's folks, and our big find was Guyot Family Farms. They do homemade jams, jellies, and syrups, all organic stuff. They had a cute little stand set up at the Saturday Market, and Jim and I wandered by, not paying much attention. The beer jellies caught our eye and brought us to a screeching halt because seriously? Beer-flavored jelly? This is a thing?

Review: Ghost Story by Jim Butcher

I think most of the anxiety -- at least on my part -- was the nagging worry that this might be the part where Butcher jumped the shark with his own series, where he did something with his hero that was so damn ridiculous it would ruin the whole thing. After all, Butcher sure wouldn't be the first to do something like that, right?

Torchwood: Miracle Day

I've never been a big fan of Torchwood. I tried, seriously. I loved Captain Jack Harkness when he first turned up on Doctor Who. He was a fun, roguish character with a mysterious past involving some "Time Agency" that had done him wrong and wiped his memory. Remember that? That was back in the first new season of Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston playing the Doctor.
