Friday Tunes: ‘Nothin’ but a Good Time,’ Poison

Poison is an American rock band that achieved great commercial success in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. Poison has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has sold 15 million records in the United States alone. The band has also charted ten singles to the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, including six Top 10 singles and the Hot 100 number-one, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” The band’s breakthrough debut album, the multi-platinum Look What the Cat Dragged In, was released in 1986 and they hit their peak with the second album, Open Up and Say… Ahh!, which became the band’s most successful album, being certified 5x platinum in the US. Vox: 9 times Mister Rogers said exactly the right thing
“I’ve written at length about the wonders of Rogers’s public television program and his tireless advocacy for the idea that television could be used to reach children and make them feel special, to make them feel okay. But he didn’t just appeal to kids. There was something about his direct, kind approach that spoke to adults as well.”

FiveThirtyEight: Donald Trump’s Base Is Shrinking
“…Trump’s base seems to be eroding. There’s been a considerable decline in the number of Americans who strongly approve of Trump, from a peak of around 30 percent in February to just 21 or 22 percent of the electorate now. […] Far from having unconditional love from his base, Trump has already lost almost a third of his strong support.”

“Citizen Lab, a Toronto-based human rights research group that focuses on cybersecurity and surveillance, issued a report Thursday offering a detailed look at what they call an ‘extensive Russia-linked phishing and disinformation campaign’ that targeted journalists and others, many of whom could be seen as undermining Russian President Vladimir Putin, those close to him, or Russian geopolitical interests.”

Vox: How a 3-year-old Rihanna meme led to a real-life heist movie with an all-black creative dream team
“Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o, Ava DuVernay, and Issa Rae: Apparently it takes a meme to round up a Hollywood dream team like this.”

Mother Jones: If You Have a Preexisting Condition, the GOP Health Care Bill Is Even Worse Than You Thought
“… Wednesday’s Congressional Budget Office analysis of the bill suggests that anyone with a preexisting medical condition – even people who already have health insurance – could face steep premium hikes.”
