5TtRT: iOS 11, guaranteed jobs, the Steele Dossier, Mueller's investigation, & the Democrats

I was going to round up a bunch of 9/11 retrospectives for today, but then I remembered that 9/11 basically ruined us as a nation and we’ve never bounced back from it, got disgusted with the whole affair, and just found these, instead. Enjoy.

5 Things to Read Today (9/11/17)

Wired: Apple’s iOS 11 Will Make It Even Harder for Cops to Extract Your Data
“Security researchers and forensic analysts who’ve seen early developer versions of iOS 11, expected to be announced at Apple’s launch event tomorrow, say its new features include tweaks designed to make extracting the data from a seized phone far more difficult without the phone’s six-digit passcode.”

Vox: What America would look like if it guaranteed everyone a job
“Imagine the US federal government established a policy whereby anyone who didn’t have a job and wanted one could go into a local office for a government agency — call it the Works Progress Administration — and walk out with a regular government position paying a livable wage ($15 an hour, perhaps) and offering health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement benefits, and child care for their kids.”

Mother Jones: Trump’s Congressional Allies Are Trying to Manipulate the Steele Dossier to Undercut the Russia Investigation
“Democrats say the request appears to be the latest example of committee Republicans attempting to furnish the White House with talking points to diminish the Russia scandal. ‘They seem to want to do the president’s bidding and parrot the president’s misguided beliefs,’ says Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a member of the Intelligence Committee.”

Politico: Mueller’s team to soon interview West Wing officials in Russia probe
“Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team is planning to interview up to a dozen White House aides in the coming weeks, according to people familiar with the investigation, but no request has yet been made to question President Donald Trump.”

TPM Editor’s Blog: More Thoughts on the Intra-Democratic Divide
“One theory, an old theory, is that Democrats have to refocus on the concerns of the ‘working class whites’. At least as broadly understood, this makes no sense either in political or moral terms. The Democratic party is roughly half non-white. Good luck appealing to the cultural and racial anxieties of Trump voters and not blowing up the whole party or center-left political coalition.”

But wait, where do I comment? No comments, sorry. Talk to me on Facebook or Twitter, instead.
