So, Roman Polanski, rapist and film director, was let out of prison for the time being. Because, apparently, it’s perfectly acceptable to drug and rape a thirteen-year-old girl, and then flee the country, so long as you’ve directed a couple of good movies.
From Deux Ex Malcontent, here’s Bernard-Henri Lévy’s commentary on Polanski’s release. Levy, by the way, is the asswipe who has been championing Polanski in the press.
The decision to free Roman Polanski is a wise decision. It honors the people who took it. It shows that the arguments developed by the movie director’s partisans — including those published on the French review’s website of ‘La Règle du Jeu’ — have finally been fruitful… At this very moment, I am thinking about Emmanuelle, his wife. I am thinking about his two kids who saw their dad’s name ignominiously dragged through the mud. I am mostly thinking about him: Roman Polanski, who I don’t know, but whose fate has moved me so much. Nothing will repair the days he has spent in prison. Nothing will erase the immense, unbelievable injustice he has been subjected to. Nothing will take away the hysteria of those ones who have never stopped pouring contempt upon him, hounding him through hatred and asking for his punishment as if we were living the darkest and most ferocious hours of the McCarthy era all over again. At least the nightmare is about to end. At least the end of the hell is looming. And this, for the time being, is what does matter.
My brain hurts. Seriously, y’all. Polanski rapes a kid and flees the law, and we finally catch his ass and put him in jail for it, and this jackass, who doesn’t even know the man, is all, “Poor Roman! How he’s suffered! What a terrible injustice!”
Really? Jesus Christ, you insane fucktard, the guy drugged and raped a girl and fled the law. I don’t care how goddamn good his movies are! And you! Standing up for the bastard! Migawd, this man must be the worst kind of attention-whore, fame-seeking, dick-drizzle I’ve seen in the news in ages! How can you look yourself in the face after protesting the punishment of a practically pedophiliac rapist? How do you get to sleep at night?
Thirty-some years ago, renowned director Roman Polanski raped a thirteen-year-old girl in just about every way you can rape a girl, confessed to it, was convicted, and then fled the country. Now, people have the unmitigated gall to claim he shouldn’t be jailed because he’s a ‘brilliant artist’.
“This is for me a shock. I am ashamed to be Swiss, that the Swiss is doing such a thing to brilliant fantastic genius, that millions and millions of people love his work,” Weisser said upon learning the director had been detained by Swiss authorities. “He’s a brilliant guy, and he made a little mistake 32 years ago. What a shame for Switzerland.”
By Tuesday, more than 130 heavyweights in the movie industry had taken up Polanski’s cause.
An online petition has been signed by directors such as Marin Scorsese, Woody Allen and Pedro Almodovar, as well as actors.
Studio chief Harvey Weinstein told CNN in a statement: “We are calling every filmmaker we can to help fix this terrible situation.”
Okay, really? Really? Seriously, hang this asshole. If the rest of you are feeling squeamish about it, I’ll be happy to make the trip out to wherever and do it for you. He raped a kid.
It doesn’t matter if he was a ‘brilliant artist’. It doesn’t matter if it happened thirty years ago. (He was convicted, there’s no statute of limitations in play, and I don’t think there is one anymore, anyway.) He raped a kid, confessed, was convicted, and fled the country. Put his sorry ass in jail. End of story.
