Important: The American Health Care Act (AHCA, Republicare, Trumpcare, etc) is not dead.

Important: The American Health Care Act (AHCA, Republicare, Trumpcare, etc) is not dead.

While we were all busy with Comey last week, Mitch McConnell and his Senate team were busy sneaking the American Health Care Act closer to a vote. I’d like to tell you what’s in the Senate bill, but I can’t, because they aren’t telling us. At all. It’s all sooper-sekrit, because they’re scared they’re going to have to deal with the same angry opposition the House did.

They need to deal with that opposition, folks. Here’s a few things to read:

McConnell is trying to hustle the Senate version of the AHCA up to a vote before the 4th of July recess, because they’re worried that Senators might waver on the vote if they have to face their constituents at home.

You must call your senators. You need to call. Email, texts, faxes and tweets accomplish nearly nothing. Call. Be brief, be polite: “Hi, I’m So N’ So. I’m a constituent of Senator Such N’ Such. I do not support the ACHA and I don’t want my Senator to help pass it. Thank you.” It’s that easy. Less than five minutes. Do it. Do it now. Do it again tomorrow. “Just a reminder. I’m a constituent, and I don’t want my senator voting to pass the ACHA. Thanks.”

Do it even if your senator has already said they aren’t voting for the bill. Call and tell them you don’t support it, and thank them for not supporting the bill. They need to hear from you.

Do not call someone if you aren’t their constituent. Read this Twitter thread from Ben Wikler, the Washington Director at MoveOn.org, to learn why. Don’t do it. Call your senator.

Do it right now. Do it again tomorrow. Do it again the day after that. Keep calling.

Done making your call for today? Great. Now you can send an email. Email your senator and politely and briefly explain to them how the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA, Obamacare) helps you. Senators who oppose Republicare need your stories to share to help stir their base, make their arguments, and for media fodder. Senators who are for Republicare need to hear how they’re screwing their constituents.

But first: Call. Your. Senator.

ETA: Indivisible Guide: The Staffers Handling Health Care for Your SenatorsIndivisible has a guide for directly calling the health care staffers for your senator. Use it.

But wait, where do I comment? No comments, sorry. Talk to me on Facebook or Twitter, instead.
